Now, I don't mean that in any way, except that we were still sooo full from lunch that time, and we didn't really have any idea what to expect with the food and the drinks. All we knew was that the place looked breezy and charming, and that we really wanted to see what it's all about, as the owner is also an acquaintance of half of us.π€ No efforts wasted, tho, cause Taste of Heroes turned out to be sooo much more than meets the eye: they serve seriously legit noms signature dishes and drinks, and hearing their story was so inspiring you'd have to be a villain not to root for these gaiz!πππΌΒ
We had a long, 'marvel'ous chat with Jorica, who co-owns the cafe with her husband, Jay, who also happens to be their head chef. In-between the lively discussions, we learned so much from their story, and, personally, I was immediately impressed by how well they complement each other: Jorica, with her tenacity and knack for business, and Jay with his expertise in developing recipes and bringing together a helluva solid menu!ππΌ
During the visit, we really enjoyed the well-put together interiors and the al fresco vibe of the place: super IG-worthy, spacious, and cozy!π¨ππͺ΅ Of course, we got to try a number of their dishes that may appear familiar to the 'human' eye, but surprisingly distinct and, to be honest, quite 'super'!π€€
π€πKorean Black Noodles:
Oh, man! This was truly delicious!πππΌ If you're a fan of Korean food, you'll easily see why this one is likened to the popular favorite which is jjajjangmyeon. What Taste of Heroes did, however, was give this a somewhat Pinoy twist that made their version incomparable to the regular one. The tangy after-taste also gives off that Charlie Chan kind of vibe. Southie Aisha added this is one dish you'll certainly keep coming back for here, because it is THAT distinct. We all agreed. We can honestly say, this one is K-ka-iba. *wink, wink*
πTexas BBQ and Salted Egg Wings with Fries:Β
These were the perfect complements to the pastas, and they were seasoned just right, because the BBQ-flavored ones were not too sweet, while the salted egg wings weren't overpowering.ππΌ
π―ππ€π½Shawaco Pizza:
Only people with superpowers would ever think to marry the comforting pizza with the strongly-spiced shawarma, and, boy! They really made a great call here, because this is something you'd totally want to have again and again! The pizza was topped with a generous serving of beef and it was so tasty, but surprisingly light.π Surely, di ka. magsha-shawa!π They also really did the dough so well because it was actually pita bread-like! As Southie Yani would say: it was like getting a bite of the Middle East in Italy. Boom!π Haha! Hey, Taste of Heroes! You should probably have a talk with Yani about trademarking that.π LOL.
π€πPasta Carbonara:
Another classic they managed to put a spin on to make it uniquely theirs. I don't quite know how Jay did it, but this tasted a lot like the comforting version, but it also had that oomph in terms of the herbs and the meat that was used. I'm a carbonara girl, and I can totally say, their version is worth checking out!ππΌ
βοΈHot Drinks: White Moccachino & Hazelnut
Both are delicious! Perfect balance between sweet, creamy, and bitter. We don't want to name names, but theirs can easily be confused with those of a popular green-colored brand in terms of taste.π LOL.Β
π₯€π¦Cold Drinks: Mixed Berry Hibiscus (Iced) & Mixed Berry Yogurt Smoothie
Both drinks were a hit to the non-coffee and non-milk drinker in the group. LOL. Southie Aisha enjoyed the Iced Mixed Berry Hibiscus because it was very refreshing and sweetened right, and the Mixed Berry Smoothie because it was almost a dessert but not too sweet!πππ
TRIVIA:
π‘They started in the food and beverage industry in 2018 with Mango Hero, right around the time the mango craze hit. Sadly, they had to close it down, due to the pandemic and trend fizzling out, as well.
π‘As with almost all business owners did, they struggled with keeping their businesses afloat during the pandemic, but with their hard work, courage, and faith in their dream, they didn't stop adapting, learning, and overcoming the many setbacks that came their way.
π‘They also have 2 more Taste of Heroes branches in Dasmarinas Cavite.
π‘When they decided to open their first branch, it was literally just Jorica and Jay manning and building their own store from start to finish, so they could save on construction and manpower expenses.
Thank you sooo much for sharing your story and your delicious food with us, Jorica and Jay of Taste of Heroes!ππΌ We will certainly keep coming back!ππΌ
Check out their socials for more details, and we highly recommend for you to swing by for the full experience.Β ππΌ
