This isn't the first time this Southie has had Japanese, but definitely one of the rarest times she didn't have the popular favorites: ramen, gyoza, or sushi. Hanako provided me with a welcome break from my usual home-cooked meals this quarantine, when they sent us their newest offerings!π―π΅ππ Let me tell ya: they sent us 'umami' items and got me sooo full, but I enjoyed every single one!ππΌ
I got to sample 3 of their buns and 1 creamy, noodle dish: all new on their menu! Read on for the full review.ππΌ You can also WATCH my experience in a 45-secondΒ TikTok video HERE.
ππCreamy Mushroom Udon: Japanese-style noodles with umami mushrooms in a rich, creamy sauce topped with tobiko.
At first glance, it will probably feel as if 'udon' really know what you're getting into, as there seemed like a whole lot going on in this plate. But, ZOMG!π± Once I got a taste of everything in one bite, I couldn't help but have more of the stuff! LOL. Think carbonara-slash-pansit with a Japanese twist!ππΌ It was salty, creamy, plus the pleasant pops of tobiko put the party in my mouth in full swing! It was 'roe' good!πππΌ
ππ±Menchi Burger: Menchi-katsu patty with homemade sauce, lettuce, sesame slaw in a squid ink bun.
The patty was juicy and its texture is quite distinct: it's nothing like your ordinary burger for sure! The subtle flavors went well with the bun. Oh. Did I forget to 'menchi' there was no meat in there?π² BOOM!π€― hashtag plot twist hashtag mind blown π
ππTori Burger: Torikatsu patty with katsu sauce, lettuce, sesame slaw in a squid ink bun.
If you're a fan of chicken sammies, then you won't be 'tori' once you get a taste of this! The chicken was well-seasoned and complemented their mayo pretty well! I think this is my most favorite of the three because it's unassuming, but tasty in every bite. I could snuff this stuff in a huff. Legit noms!ππΌπ€€π€Β
ππ₯©Beef Yakiniku Burger: Slices of beef yakiniku, lettuce, onion in a squid ink bun.
Like sweet stuff? Then this one's for you, Southie! Of the three, this is the most flavorful: it was sweet but also spiced juuust right. The beef yakiniku strips had a jerky quality to it, but it wasn't chewy at all. They actually had this pleasant texture, since they were smothered in sauce so you'd expect the meat to be soggy, but it wasn't, so YAY!ππΌππΌππΌ The sauce can get a little messy but they packed it neatly, so it didn't get 'yaki' just yummy! Tee-hee!π€ͺ
PRO-TIPS:
π‘Their buns are Buy1Take1, so go grab 1 and share 1 with someone! (Or not. Up to you. haha!)Β
π‘Have the udon while it's still warm to enjoy the creaminess of the sauce fully.
Thank you sooo much for Ja'fun' experience, Hanako PH!ππΌ
Check out these snacks today, and might as well view 'ebi'thing in their menu, Southies!ππΌΒ
