Sooo grateful that our lovely peeps from Better Options Food Products sent over their legit noms bottled tahong and some gourmet tuyo for me to try!🥹🫶🏽 With my hellish schedule lately, having their products on hand allowed me the ease and flexibility to fix up simple or inspired meals that are delish, while working from home and sans all the major fuss required when cooking.👌🏽 This made me a believer that ‘tahong’ *really* is where the heart is.😜

Here is everything I experienced and what I thought about it:

🫙🦪🧈🧄 Buttered Garlic Tahong in Olive Oil

🍚 As Rice Topping: I super enjoyed this cause all you really need is to scoop out a few pieces of mussels, top it on some hot steamed rice, and drizzle some of its olive oil over the whole thing… and VOILA!🪄 You have one subtle but flavorful bowl to tide you over until your next meal.👍🏽

🍝 As Pasta Ingredient: This was my favorite!😋 The mussels blended so well with the whole dish. Taking Southie Aisha’s advice, I sautéed lots of minced garlic in some olive oil, added a dollop of tomato paste then mixed in about 3 spoonfuls of mussels with its oil and seasoned with salt & pepper. I then added the noodles and some pasta water, mixed everything in, and finished it off with some butter and minced parsley. Based on the crowd consensus, the dish was a W!🥳🙌🏽 Haha!

🫙🦪🥘🍚 Adobong Tahong in Pure Olive Oil: I was only able to try this as a straightforward rice topping. The adobo flavor was subtle, and was also good. I just preferred the buttered garlic version as I’m a big sucker for garlicky stuff.

🫙🐟 Gourmet Tuyo (Regular & Spicy): I paired the regular variant with some Vigan longganisa to top some of my longga fried rice. I’m used to having mine less salty, but Southie Eliza suggested it would be perfect to make some aglio olio with it. Stay tuned!
